Official Statement

Post by SePH on Sun 12 Mar 2017 - 19:03

Zeldix do not condone the making of unofficial carts and do not involve any dealings with regards to the production of carts. Any discussion or links with regards to this, in this forum, will result in the user being banned. We have never intended to create any games with the intention of selling it and never will.

Special users are no exception to this rule as one of our co-team member was recently caught intending to sell carts of Conker on another forum and openly saying he was a team member of the hack. He will also be removed from the credits in any of the future hack updates.

Please be aware doing such immoral actions will only give Zeldix unwanted attention from Nintendo and could give us a C&D. If you'd like this board to stay alive a while longer, it may be best to avoid such discussions.

Thank You

SePH

We had a copy of the bszelda rules a while ago but they were deleted.

Maybe it's time.For a revival?

Board Guidelines

1 - We ask that you do not insult, ridicule or threaten other posters, old or new that they may be. Also, please, do not spam Smile

2 - We ask that whenever you wish to write about later parts of a game, you apply the spoiler tags to said text. Especially if it is something about the game's story, bosses, puzzles or items.
In the help forums however, it is not required to use spoiler tags for anything except the game's story. Failure to do so may result in warning, suspension or banning; depending on the number of times this happened, the severity of the violation (such as describing the game's ending) and possible maliciousness of the violator.
Alternatively, you may create a topic with the words *spoilers for "game(s) name"* in its title. That will exempt everybody from using spoiler tags in that thread for spoilers about said game. However know that said thread may not be modded, unless specifically requested for a violation of these rules.

3 - Due to the high level and frequency of malicious spam bots posting in the forum, registration is required to post replies in any of our forums.

I was against carts and selling/buying of those from the beginning, so I couldn't agree more, but I also hope you are aware, that releasing the game unlocked will unfortunately result in piracy and digital Rom distribution (no Ips and no readme) by 3rd party individuals. This was already made for Conker unfortunately, which only proves the quality of the game.

This was the reason I invented the zip-lock and the recoded snes9x, both of which were refused utterly by various communities. I can also recode Conker to Exlorom (possible only if it is not FastRom) to inforce your upper rule.

But of course this is not needed if you simply want to prevent discussion about it, but do note even members of this forum could abuse the game being completely unlocked in various ways, not just cart making.

I personally got over this as stated in some readmes of the IQ series hacks, which were finally released completely unlocked. Unfortunately there is not other way if you want players to use various emus as well as sd2snes or flashcarts, all of which I believe are acceptable to use. So any blocades narrow down the devices the game will work on.

Shouldn't we have rules sitewide?
I wrote this in 2014 while being admin at the time:
Forum Rules and Guidelines:

Since there has been a lot of activity recently on the forum, and since the Rules were never actually written and there has even been a ROM link published recently; I've decided to come up with some standard Rules and Guideline, which are very similar to other romhacking communities and forums.

You should know, that the rules are not there to spoil your fun, but are rather there to make this forum a better place. You have 2 choices, follow them or be warned/removed from the community.

Or maybe I should quote King Arthur: "Either we write our laws according to the believes of our forefathers and wisemen; and hold it as right and good and true - so that they will be right and good and true for all mankind; or we are just another robbing tribe."

1.) ROMs and patching
ROMs, ROM links and ROM requests are not allowed (since this is considered as explicit piracy). No exceptions. Never publish or ask for a ROM in any combination with this forum, which includes posts, personal messages and topics which would encourage such acts outside the forum. The same goes for ISOs, WADs, cracks, keygens etc, since this is considered as explicit piracy as well.

If you want to publish your work (finished projects) use UPS patch (default), otherwise use IPS (also acceptable). You can also use xdelta patch format.

Tsukuyomi UPS
http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/519/

Xdelta
http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/598/

Lunar IPS
http://www.romhacking.net/utilities/240/

UPS patch is a default patch format, since it won't allow false patching. IPS patch can be used in these exceptions: non finished projects, situations where you need to use more patches on the same file, ASM hacks or game/system specific reasons.

The default original rom to create patches from is the NON-headered US Zelda3 Alttp smc file, with the file CRC 777AAC2F.

Patches are meant to be used by private individuals for private use only, without any monetary transactions involved!

This forum does not endorce and is at the same time deeply shocked to see abusive handling of patches, such as prepatched ROM publishing, carting, cart selling and specially: you tube bragging when unboxing the newly bought repro carts.
-----

2.) Cartridges
This forum is Not affiliated with the Repro cart/real hardware mentality or community. Discussions on where to get or how to make repro carts is not allowed, nor to publish any pictures on how real hardware works and how it can be edited.

The goal of this community is not to make or sell carts. We tend to stay in "software" and in the "freeware" zone. Offering money to someone to do the work for you is not allowed, nor asking for money for your work.

Offering money for someone to make a repro cart for you, or link to repro cart stores or repro ebay offers is strickly forbidden (which will result in a ban), since this is considered as explicit piracy and patch abuse.

This community prefers any freeware means to play freeware game moddifications for personal use, such as emulators of any kind or flashcarts or Snes clones such as Snes Game Doctor.

Note: This above is true for old consoles only (specially SNES and NES). Emulators, hacks etc etc for later or modern consoles are not allowed to be published.

***

At the same time we are avare that changing the original code is the so called grey area. Romhacking was born with translations and master quests, and was meant for users which own the original game to also enjoy this freeware "add-on" (which is called patch today).

We thus justify our work as being in a patch form and can only be used by private individuals and for private purposes if they own the original game; which by this definition falls under the so called "fair use" without any monetary transaction or gain either by author or user of the patch.

Please don't argue with the above statement and call romhacking an illegal act, since we do it for the love for the game, not for profit.
-----

3.) Advertising and linking
Don't advertise. For this reason certain linking is not allowed. Do not use Media fire as your upload host (which forces adverts). Your link must be a direct download.

The same for similar upload hosts, which force adverts or "are you human" veryfications (type in simbols before download is possible) or time limitations (wait one minute before you can download) or other limitations (solve a game or send an SMS to be able to download). These upload hosts are not welcome and their links will be removed.

Recomended upload hosts:
A) dropbox (at the same time this is an exception for direct linking).

standard dropbox link (non direct)
https://www.dropbox.com/ etc

direct dropbox link (change https to http, and www to dl) default/standard
http://dl.dropbox.com/ etc

B) ze bucket
http://www.bwass.org/bucket/

or any others which you can find, that use direct download.
-----

4.) General behaviour
It is not allowed to flame, accuse, abuse, attack etc etc other members or the community or the forum; or to spam, advertise, make extensive amount of topics etc etc.

Act maturely, respectfully and non egocentric. It is not allowed to use swearing ie faul language (f*** etc), hyper enthusiasm with excentric and hollow meaning, specially if capital letters and multiple letters are involved (WOW, UAA, COOOOOOL), AOL talk (WTF, this is 4U @ home, IMHO, sk8er), poor or unreadable grammar.

Don't call users with strange names, such as geeks, idiots etc etc. Your goal should be to present your self with something smart. Or in other words: "make" or "advice" instead of "talk" and the fame will come on its own.
-----

5.) Topic themes (this is a guideline not a rule to be inforced)
It is not desirable for you to talk about you personal problems (we are not Dr. Phil, nor are we the Red cross); and it is not allowed to open political, religious and other off topic problematic topics/debates.

6.) Grammar notice. (this is a guideline not a rule to be inforced)
The language used in this forum is english (guess what, it is not my native language also, but I still use it, because it can be understood). You can write in other languages in personal messages.

The ? and ! are touching the word:
wrong: Is this ok ?
correct: Is this ok?

There is one space after the period:
wrong: Is this ok?  Yes.
correct: Is this ok? Yes.

Note: If you for any reason can not produce readable grammar, than this forum is not for you. How can anyone tell you something or communicate in any way, if they can not understand you properly. I'm not saying you english needs to be perfect, but it should be tolerable (average).
-----

7.) Rules of Thumb (this is a guideline not a rule to be inforced)

A) Don't ask when a project is done. It is done when they release it. Don't rush the author.

B) Don't resurrect old topics unless you have something very relevant or new news to add. Ie necro posting rule.

C) It is never a good idea to request someone else do work for you. That includes asking for someone to make a utility, do a translation, write a document etc.

D) Don't post or quote an excessive amount of code, hex, text, or images.

E) Use the @ simbol to address someone.

F) Don't capitalize to often and too much (I like POSTING), unless it is something like ROM or ASM, but rather make the first letter bigger (I like Posting) or use italic (I like posting) or bald (I like posting).

G) Don't use triple points: (This is so ...). Since nobody can read peoples minds. Rather use (This is so great.).

H) Don't capitalize the beginning of all words (This Is So Great), since this looks awkward.

Thanks Puzzledude I'll rework on these rules tomorrow if I have some time. I'll rework a couple of things, but mostly will use these set of rules as a base.

Yes, I think it mostly covers everything, even the guidelines (which are not even rules as such), but obviously you can adopt it to your wishes, specially things regarding grammar etc, which is less importaint.
