Killer Instinct MSU-1

It has some arcade tracks, some from Killer Cuts and some Graeme Norgate remastered.

Apply on headerless rom US 1.1

IPS patch v2:
http://bszelda.zeldalegends.net/stuff/Con/KI_msu1.zip

Now works at sd2snes.

PCM tracks:

A big thanks to Mattrizzle for explaining the dkc2 patch.
Thanks to Conn for helping for the sd2snes code.

Msu patch v2.0
What i would like to add in later versions (but i don't know if i can) from easiest to harder:
*Character portraits on char select screen, taken from arcade.
*Transparent cinder
*Co-co-co-co-co-combo breaker sfx instead of Co-co-co-co-combo breaker (like the arcade. Spc hacking. Sfx is 26
*One "combo breaker" sfx on vs screen (like the arcade).
*Heartbeat sound from spc every second decrease, like the arcade. Spc hacking.
*Different fatality sound for each character depending on fatality, like the arcade.
*Shadow position like the arcade.
*Slower end credits screen (to match the arcade duration).
*Black background for end credits like the arcade. Ki logo (bg1) appear when the guitar loop begins
*End credits add fmv to bg layer (like https://youtu.be/GUacmSQvaNA)
*Intro fmv with ultra64 logo etc taken from the arcade.
*Ending videos.
*Character bio videos.
*Vs screen videos.
*Character select 360 sprites from arcade (stream tilemaps with msu-1).
*Press start at character ladder, skips vs screen (like the arcade)
*Show the "enter initials screen" without fade out the current, even we don't have framebuffer (like the arcade)

Optional mini patches from the above list:
https://1drv.ms/f/s!Ah8ksmUOX0QQiHSDg2jevDlWo1yz

Various WIP screenshots included in this folder.
*Press a key on character ladder skips to battle, like the arcade. (not arcade perfect result yet)
*Skip fade in and fade out at character select/ladder screen, like the arcade.
*Upgraded end credits to look more arcade.
*Better combo breaker sfx in battle mimic the arcade.
*Eyedol bridge stage has Cinder music (like the arcade).
*Character select the p1 square is Red and p2 is green (like the arcade). Also
char selection start from TJ combo instead of jago (like the arcade).

This hack took me 3 years and countless hours after midnight (because of dayjob) watching other ips patches and trying to learn assembly. If you like it you can donate any tip you want, even $1 at paypal gizaha1@gmail.com

There is a way to stream audio data to spc. I don't know if the bandwitdth is enough or the gameplay will have slowdown, but there is no reason or way to use the 2017 voices. I work on Rareware's game, created with Stampers' visions and directions. Anything other is not KI.

The biggest upgrade will be when the reading from external file will work (some arcade tilemaps and fmv).

That patch removes all the music, but it doesn't puts the msu1 ones.

I have used the v1.1, and the game boots normally, but withput music. Generally when a game starts after the patching is because it was well patched, right?.

Not neccesary.
You used headerless rom?
You have the ki-1.pcm and the other pcms in the same folder?
You have the ki.msu in the same folder?
You used msu-1 compatible emulator?

Seeing as there's no xml in the zip, I'd say he's using an emulator that needs it for MSU1.

It runs without the xml, is not needed on the pc.

Some emulators need the XML, namely some versions of BSNES. He's obviously using one of those.

Indeed, BSNES needs the ki.xml

It is supossed that the rom is headerless, if not, it doesen't boot, right?.

All my pcm's are ki-1.pcm, ki-2.pcm, etc, also the ki.msu is in the same folder, and the emulator runs another games patched with msu1 normally (so, it is compatible).

I will follow trying.

edit: I haven't any ki.xml

Then take any xml from another msu game and rename it ki.xml, it will work fine.

Wow, with an .xml file (renamed to ki.xml), it doesn't boot ^^u

Why don't you update to the latest bsnes version, that doesn't require a xml anymore

I'm on my mobile and can't search the link for latest bsnes, it's in e.g. in the lion king patch readme doc.
Important is that you delete the ki.xml then, otherwise it'll load the corrupted one

With higan v0.93 the music is muted too.

Interesting...

-Rom boots after patching, so it is the correct.
-Rom has .sfc extension
-Files are "ki-1" and so on, for pcm's, and "ki" and so on for the rest.

The fact that the rom boots after patching does not means nessecary that you patched the correct.

You patched headerless version?
It was US version?
It was sure 1.1 version?
What emulator you're using?

Ah, here's the latest bsnes version that won't require a xml anymore. We do not further support xml.
http://www.emucr.com/2018/01/bsnes-plus-git-20180117.html
Be sure your old xml is deleted.

Test the patched rom in the latest bsnes or snes9x whether it works there. If not you didn't patch it correctly. Then import the patched rom (follow the steps in the readme). The bml looks alright to work in higan .93.

edit: just tested in higan .97, no issues. All works great.

KI works also fine on bsnes, must be a problem at Señor Ventura side. Dunno.

First time I hear these problems. Are there any games not working on bsnes? Actraiser2 plays on bsnes, just tested.

Finally i downloaded the snes9x v1.55, and results that it has been working fine all this time.

But i was testing with the last versions of HIGAN, and it wasn't functioning, really it couldn't be imagining that was right patched.

what a day...

Conn wrote:KI works also fine on bsnes, must be a problem at Señor Ventura side. Dunno.

Absolutely. It works (in my case) with the last version of snes9x, but not with the last version of higan.

I discovered this a while before, and then now i read the same here. I don't know if it works on higan, but with the last version of that emulator it never worked to me, so i thought i had to patch, again, and again, and again... but it was well done after all x_x

We talk about KI here.
kurrono wrote:ki.. on my bsnes no xml..dont run
We solve this problem already, put another xml or change emulator.
kurrono wrote:it stays on black screen
Black screen means wrong rom patched.
kurrono wrote:snes9x cant do the impossible yet,...
Yes it can. Version 1.55 can play msu1 games.
kurrono wrote:in higan works though.. but not on bsnes no xml for me..
Syntax/logical error, this sentence does not make sense.

Use US (means usa) headress (means with removed header) version1.1, with crc32 177C757A
The patched rom will have crc32 177CC429

I tested KI on higan 106 now. No problems. Take the steps you see in the readme. Import the rom so you have program.rom in ki.sfc folder, then copy the pcm:s and ki.msu in that folder too.

Bsnes works as well, I tested with this version:
http://www.emucr.com/2018/01/bsnes-plus-git-20180117.html
Be sure NO xml is inside the KI folder, then it will work as well (test with snes9x, if this works, bsnes works, too).

Conn could you please upload your bsnes emulator to more safer download websites ?
MediaFire is a better way to share files securely.

That is an inofficial release I think of that version that doesn't require xml anymore. Maybe the community can help whether a built was already released elsewhere
