Ok, I've seen a lot of threads in the General Dicsussion forum, and it's starting to annoy me. Isn't that forum for discussion /outside/ of hacking?

So I was thinking we have some kind of "Zelda 3 Hack Discussion" forum where you can discuss Z3 hacking related things.

I also noticed a lot of threads about Z3 itself. Would it also work to have some kind of data respiratory or some forum for people to post their discoveries?

I could make another thread under General discussion named Z3 discussion and then move all the Z3 topics in there, while the General would be for non Z3 (at the moment the general topic is for anything).

Regarding the discoveries: I made a lot of them and they should be posted in the form of a document of any kind here:

for that matter, only about 13 of the 37 threads on this "Help & Feedback" sub-forum actually concern the messageboards.

the rest completely ignore the description ("Here you can ask for help if you are having trouble on the board, and/or post your comments and suggestions about the board."), and are mostly about Zelda 3 hacking.  too many users (but a few in particular) treat "General Discussion", "Help & Feedback", "General Zelda 3 Projects", and "Requests" as completely interchangeable.  why not just merge the four into a single forum called "Miscellaneous Junk Pile"?  truth in labeling and all..

maybe at one point, the various sub-forums were signs of an organized mind at work, but it's turned into a farce if topicality is never enforced. Razz

I'm glad you brought this up, assassin. I never really thought about this before.

The problem isn't that the forum needs to be restructured, it's that people like myself who have moderator capacity have a responsibility to keep this shit organized. It's the users-bases fault for posting in the wrong areas, it's our fault (site staff) if these things don't eventually find their proper place.

I'll comb through the forums tonight and sort some of this stuff out.

Okay. I just spent about 4 or more hours reorganizing and cleaning up the site. I may have went a little overboard and I'm not going to say I didn't make any mistakes along the way, but by-and-large the changes should be in the site and user-bases best interests.

Threads with dumb questions and no replies: deleted. Posts with dead links and little or no replies: deleted. If a thread was more than a few weeks old and didn't amount to anything or include useful snippets of code or addresses: deleted. Requests/ROM hacking inquiries were put in the request sections as well as other things of this nature. I deleted a few of the doc threads because they are redundant now that the "ultra docs" collection exists (which I have backed up).

I also cleaned up the comments sections of a few patches and hack project pages (only the ones in the resource sections, the rest are none of my concern) if it was filled with dumb shit like "I don't know how to patch a ROM" or other useless things.

Phew... Confused

LOL Wow. That's a lot. And I probably deleted like 15 that were old and never went anywhere. I made sure to keep any that had codes and addesses though.

No problem. I've been wanting to do something like this for a while but never started for whatever reason. Assassin's comment was the inspiration I needed.
Very Happy

I was actually surprised that there was so much that needed to be done. I know at other forums I'm constantly seeing things moved around and whatnot. I guess this site has such little traffic compared to places like RHDN or SMWC that it can be easy to overlook certain things since the need is not always so desperate.

I also learned a lot and rediscovered a few things I had lost along the way (like the hex for disabling the intro).

i've only looked at the first wave of changes (i.e. the topic moves) so far, but good work!  thanks.

glad i could be a catalyst. Very Happy

yeah, the slower nature of things can let more misplaced stuff accumulate.  it's kinda like the boiling frog scenario.  though this place still has far more traffic than Mnrogar's Den. Wink

the effort is much appreciated.  better you did this now than in a year or two, after the place has been covered in brambles, and the average post reduced to feral grunts.

It's good for the site and it's also good for me. I've been wanting to go through this entire place in search of useful codes and addresses to add to my personal collection (and a new version of the Compendium). Trimming the fat will make that a few other things much easier.
