Important Side Note: If you have seen the qwertymodo preview that is on his YouTube Channel that has all the FMV cutscenes, that project is not finished yet. We do not know when it will be finish but please respect qwertmodo and there is no need for him to be asked frequently about it.

Chrono Trigger :: Comments

Quality really is an issue, but I'm happy with the Zelda fmv (and the other games feature that, like ki, out of this world, etc). It's simply cool and novel. But yes the work and effort is unfortunately high so not many Games feature this. Qwerty didn't drop it afaik, he had problems with a converter with acceptable quality (liji or something like this was his name worked on it), and then other projects crossfired like ladx and he lost interest for that time being.
But jud6ment said it needs alone 20 different ending sequences, so if a patch features this one day... It is complex. So I can fully retrace that you don't want to implement it.

At the moment yes, but the "Quertymodo Patch and FMV Download (Mirror Link)" has the original patch and .msu file in the main folder and in a side folder has the fmv and pcm-100 that is needed to make fmv play. Hoping qwertymodo updates his links when he gets a chance, but for the moment the mirror link has everything you need. And just a side note, we dont have fmv video that is completely done, you will see "beta" in the video

Implemented a SMC header remover, a byte signature checker and a free address space checker into the make scripts. These features require PowerShell, which comes bundled with Windows since Windows 7, but you can still assemble without it; these features will just not be available.
Other than that, I've also changed how you assemble into a ROM; you now drag and drop the ROM onto the specific make script.

Greatfull, thank you very much!!!

After everything that I've said/wrote about my hack and why I am not adding FMV support to it, he still sends me this message:
Sorry, but I really have no time or patience to keep repeating myself.
The make scripts are pretty straightforward now and will tell you what went wrong. From now on, I am only providing support for errors that tell you to contact me.
E = Error
S = Solution
E: No ROM! Drag and drop a ROM into this script.
S: Do as the message says.
E: ROM not found!
S: Only happens if you've executed the script via command line. Simply pass the correct parameters to it: make.bat "source rom.sfc" "output rom.sfc"
E: Source code not found!
S: You are missing "src\chrono_msu1.asm". Make sure you've downloaded and unpacked everything correctly.
E: bass not found!
S: You are missing "bass.exe". Make sure you've downloaded and unpacked everything correctly.
E: Invalid ROM!
S: Your ROM's size is not 4 MB (HiROM) or 6 MB (ExHiROM). Make sure to pass a correct non-corrupted ROM. If you do not have PowerShell bundled with your Windows, make sure the ROM is headerless before passing it to the script.
E: ROM byte signature mismatch! Please contact this hack's author.
S: Do as the message says.
E: Required ROM address spaces are not free! Please contact this hack's author.
S: Do as the message says.
Not to mention that after spending days answering his PMs and then analyzing his ROM to ad hoc a patch, he didn't bother to thank me, not even getting back to me to acknowledge his results.Hi Cthulhu. Will be it possible to make sure FMV videos works in the Chrono Trigger french version?

Apologies for the hassle, Cthulhu. We'll be taking appropriate measures against the person in question.

@cthulhu, we are aware of some people here are special, but we try to be tolerant and patient as far as possible.
However, as there have been troubles in the past already, especially trolling with pm:s I disallowed brutapode now from sending them.
Additional note, there are no obligations to answer to pm:s
feel free to ignore/delete them

Let me be clear that I am not asking for overmoderation or for any actions to be taken against anyone.
I am just saying that I won't be providing any further support on things that have already been addressed, which means I am ignoring those messages from now on.
Not trying to raise drama, but I felt I'd to give some context on this. I can't be giving paid-level tech support to everyone who refuses to read the last couple pages, more so when most people these days take you for granted.
I'll also not be here forever. I am squashing every last bug that I can find with this playthrough, but once I am done with it, consider the project final/finished and I won't be providing any kind of support, including errors telling you to contact me.

They've had numerous warnings to take a chill pill, read threads and to take things on board, and to stop annoying people for things that have been explained to them already, but they keep ignoring them. It has been coming and it's simply a result of these things accumulating. The next time they'll be gone for good. So, let's leave it at that.

Since bp mentioned it already in publicity (not wanting to be indiscrete), he has Asperger's, so maybe it is therefore he constantly needs to ask questions answered before, appears inpolite (no simple thanks when you do things for him), and all the other stuff. It is for this reason we do not consider him a troll, and banned years ago (he doesn't do it intentionally). On the other hand, such mental stuff is no green card to behave like one wants...
So for now the pm stop helps to protect him from himself

I am an asperger with the social skills of a brick while also suffering from chronic OCD, GAD and depression. Mental illnesses are as common as the flu these days, you can't hide behind them to play victim.
I've been programming for two decades now, and I've been through the same scenarios over and over. It's a huge source of discouragement for me and I've been slowly migrating away from open source/public projects as dealing with people isn't my forte.
Anyway, sorry for bringing it up, but I felt that I needed to explicitly state what I'll help with.

Thank you so much for your prompt reply, JUD6MENT. Pls, I need the "Cthulhu's patch (1.1.4)" because this one is compatible with any other patches and languages. I have the USA rom patched with the spanish translation (no-header). Any alternative?
Regards.

I am so grateful for your reply, @edale. But this file not contain the .bps or .ips patch.
Any idea?

Yes: read the previous posts, there are descriptions how to compile it all yourself

Cthulhu wrote:To cross-assemble it into a ROM, you need bass v14; there is a compiled version for Windows at https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/794/
Simply place bass.exe together with make.bat and chrono_msu1.asm, open make.bat with a text editor and edit the following lines:
set DEFINE=EX: If your ROM is an ExHiROM (ROM size bigger than 4 MBs), leave this be; if your ROM is a HiROM (vanilla ROM is HiROM), remove or comment this line (rem set DEFINE=EX).
set INPUT="Chrono Trigger (USA).sfc": This is the name of the ROM you are cross-assembling into.
set OUTPUT="chrono_msu1.sfc": This is the name of the ROM that gets generated.
Now just double click make.bat.
P.S. If you also want it to fix the SNES checksum after cross-assembling, put checksum.exe from my checksum calculator together with make.bat: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1479/
P.S. If you also want it to auto-generate a BPS patch, put flips.exe together with make.bat: https://www.romhacking.net/utilities/1040/

Thank you ever so much @edale, and @conn. Thanks everyone. Sorry about my ignorance. Pls, I would like to know if this method can also be used to compile other roms of other games, Jurassic Park, e.g.
I awaiting your kind reply.

Nope. That mod is only for Chrono Trigger. It'd have to be completely recoded for another game. MSU implementation is different for every game, as no 2 games handle audio identically.Pee wee wrote:Thank you ever so much @edale, and @conn. Thanks everyone. Sorry about my ignorance. Other than the advices for auto fixing the checksum and auto generating a patch, those instructions are outdated. You just drag and drop the ROM into the correct make script: 4 MB = HiROM, 6 MB = ExHiROM, French translation = French.

To complement this reply, those make scripts are specific to my code; they won't work on DarkShock's or qwertymodo's codes.

Thank you for that clarification, edale & Cthulhu. It's crystal clear. Pity not to adapt other patches for other languages. As you know, there are many translations on the internet for SNES roms and most people (including myself) are used to play in our language.

I've updated the folder as to move bass.exe to its own folder and also updated the make scripts to look for and call bass from that folder.
This should make it more clear for laymen that you shouldn't execute bass manually, instead executing one of the make scripts, which as of now, are the only loose files within the root folder.
