msu1 rom issue?

Hey all

Here's a run down on what I have happening and what I have tried.

Alright installed the emu snes 1.60 and fired up the sfc rom version Zelda rom and it worked with the alternate music. Success! So I attempted to patch that with Hylian patch and it said this patch is not intended for this rom?

So I tried it using the smc rom version. Patched it to the Hylian patch first then patched that file to the alttp_msu1.ips file. Changed the name to altt_msu.smc and booted it up with the 1.60 emu and it was glitchy on the intro https://gyazo.com/0a69aed875d699bf275160115de226f8 but then freezes after the movie turns to a dark screen?

Yes. Hylian patch is probably in bps format, that needs the stock Rom without any patch preapplied. IPS is less strict.

Then this patch probably uses free spaces, which the msu patch uses as well causing your crash.


So to overcome:
- patch first hylian
- don't use the alttp MSU patch you used, but the short one without video. It should be compatible, you find it in a subfolder of the patch zip file

Note: 2 versions, alttp_msu1.ips is with video but works only for us (ntsc), while alttp_msu1_short.ips works on every pal/ntsc but doesn't support a video.

Great thanks tried your recommendation and it works now. I don't care if I have that video in there really anyways but just so I understand the video patch isn't an option because of the rom I'm using or the emu? Or something else?

it's an incompatibility between the msu patch (with video) and the hylian patch.

if two patches try to use the same area of ROM or the same free ram, etc, weird things will happen and probably the game breaks and will not work
