Zelda3C Diary
Hi guys! I've updated my diary page and thought I'd mention it here. If anyone ever has feedback and wants to share it with the group, here's the place to do it!

Re: Zelda3C Diary
This is really great seeing quest for calatia back in development! I can't wait to get to see brand new progress in this hack and I wish you luck in being able to finish this quest.
Re: Zelda3C Diary
Thank God that the Quest for Calatia hack is back on track.

Re: Zelda3C Diary
I posted another entry just now, the very next day! This one details all the things I can do even when I don't have much time to spare. It turned out to be quite a long list!
Re: Zelda3C Diary
I think I like the new pine trees graphics better.
They seem to fit the rest of the game better as they match the kind of cartoon look as the other graphics.
If you also save tiles then its a win win!
And it is outstanding to see GM24 back in action!

Re: Zelda3C Diary
Yeah, the old pine trees have to be discontinued. I liked them a lot, but the rest of the game will be much improved by the extra tiles. The new pine tree graphics have improved since my last update; I will soon post the latest!
I've also gotten really serious about making progress on Calatia and making sure that I post updates. I can't let you guys down after believing in me for so long.
Cheers!

Re: Zelda3C Diary
New update on GM site.

Also I have a comment for:
Invisible water-wall, to keep Link from swimming too far into the ocean – confirmed!
Instead of an invisible wall, could the same effect be created using natural obstacle like land or those river rocks? If you just used rocks as a barrier then you don't have to use an extra tile.

Re: Zelda3C Diary
Here is Zack's latest response after I briefly emailed him.
Zack wrote:You're right, I should return to Zeldix soon. I haven't because I know that every weekend is dominated by family matters, as it has been for years now. It's frustrating to think about the hack when I know I can't work on it. I hope that changes before long so I can get back into it again, but my kids come first.
CD-quality music? That seems strange -- how would an emulator play something beyond the available instruments in SNES coding? If the ROM is accessing outside files and using a special emulator, this would definitely break anyone's attempt to properly port the game to an actual cartridge.

Re: Zelda3C Diary
Hi everyone. I spent half of my Labor Day weekend dealing with the very reason I stopped working on Calatia -- that accursed Epoch Tower. Nothing like dread and frustration to push something out of your mind until you stop remembering to try again. However, I've finally transformed DarkPrince's overhaul into something that actually functions yet still looks good, and I believe I'm ready to move on. The next diary post is eminent.
At my current rate, my project is hopeless. I can only hope to be naive enough to keep pushing the project until it starts rolling again. Today I'm at the college working on this while my wife studies. It's so quiet here -- no kids running around and busting in every 5 minutes. This is the environment I need to get anything done, lol...
Yes, the Light World is only about 1/3 finished, if that. But some of those same areas in the Dark World are also done because I have to develop them concurrently. None of the dungeons are started in the ROM, but pieces of them are planned out on paper. I'm not worried about how long the indoors will take -- they will be a lot of work, sure, but nothing compared to overworld development. I tend to ignore them on purpose, much to ErockBrock's distress, because I know dungeon entrances are dependent on the overworld and I can't focus on easy things when I don't know if, or how, difficult things will be resolved.
Many people tell me time and again, even recently, that they still check the Z3C diary page. This boggles my mind because they know the likelihood of seeing anything new. It's encouraging that people haven't give up, in spite of the facts.
Even though I have so much farther to go, I've put much more time and effort into this project than I ever have in any game-making endeavor. It definitely hasn't been a 12 year development process, but I can't let the years I have invested be in vain!
