I've noticed over the past few days that it gets really difficult to not hack for just a few days and then get back into it.

I try to keep a notebook with everything I'm planning or little notes but sometimes I just forget what I meant entirely.

I figure all of you have had these moments trying to get back into hacking after awhile, what do you do to help yourself?

For my other game, Super Mario Logic I just created a thread in a forum which details all of the things that I need to do in the game.

It also helps to have what is called a design document. Its a document you write up which details all of the plans you have and need to accomplish for the hack/game.

Main concepts for Alttp are: main overworld grid with the area numbers (must be on paper in my oppinion, but just empty squares with the number). This makes it easier to navigate through HM. Main dungeon grid (printed) with all room numbers and dungeon borders (as well as a list of entrances and to which room they lead). Third: main item progression. The rest is either written down or remembered by mind.

I think the work of a coder is different from what you do. The main knowledge what to do if you encounter a problem is burned into my brain (using geiger, asm opcodes and so). I tend to be rather fast when I'm working on a patch and once it is done debugged I tend to forget everything about it and need to trace my work again (shame also that I got rather lazy with documentation in last time as well ^^).
If I know anything is upcoming (as now SePH's palette change) I gather information and write some notes down where to find what.

A big help always is e.g. MoN's documentation where I can find most ram information in a second. So he should also be credited in every rom which uses one of my hacks.
