Conn's Ultimate ASM Pack

I've decided to post this pack here first, since I also made some updates. This one can go public now.
 
First: no roms here, since it is going public (no roms are allowed, else it will be rejected by romhacking sites). Patches are UPS (UPS patcher included), no false patching possible.
 
Second: Update on the PW patch. This UPS patch must be applied to original Alttp and will change into Parallel Worlds original+fixes (shovel in inventory, digging asm, titlescreen fix with ending preserved= new code by ikari, give byrna in chest in Zelda's cell, give shovel in chest in forest Meadow).
 
The same thing was made for Parallel Remodel.
This can be regarded as PW v1.2 and PR v1.2, but I would rather see 1.1 preserved and this as Addendum hack (since 1.1 is much more tested), so both versions remain.
 
 
Third: A brand new HP hack, which I made. Those must be IPS patches, to be able to apply them to various Zelda3 hacks (with no header). This was made for rookies: start with 10 hearts, Armor3, start with Fire sword, and new special sword or PuzzleDude's sword (can freeze, burn and make normal damage).

Awesome.... except the headline Razz You and other hackers did also such a great job! Also thanks for adding the shovel Smile

Could you only add pictures to the hacks (just take those in the thread)? A pic says more than thousands words, so people know much faster what this and that hack does.

Cool, one thing; the digging special treasures for HC-Pieces will not work with PW since the code must be remapped (space is used already there that is free in ALTTP for which the patch is thus compatible only).

The random treasure is applyable to any hack... though on a second thought it would maybe be better to change the 20 rupee gain by default to 1 rupee. Also the default small magic does not make sense for PW/PR either since the magic automatically refills if I am right.
But no need to make new patches, I think everybody who wants to use these hacks can make their own version by reading the instructions.

Again, many thanks for upgrading the hacks with shovel and the other stuff! Wink

I've just uploaded the pack to Romhacking.net database (updated with pictures). It looked very nice on preview. It was a pain (screenshots must be "pure" = exact resolution and png format, uploads must be http, not https, and must end with zip, txt or png etc others are rejected etc, you must write the txt in third person not first person, all uploads are url only, with direct download uppon click).
 
I've done all that, but I don't think we will see it up there any time soon. It seems that some of the staff are on vacation. I could not see my submission in the submission queue. There are 2 options (either the queue is closed, or only first 20 submissions are displayed, so my submission has to wait another 20-30 submissions before mine).
 
The message however said, that it will be processed in 24 to 48 hours (but I don't think this is true for the vacation time of july and august). I will however be notified by email, when it is processed and if it was accepted or rejected.

One more question to your test in PW/PR: I wasn't able to test flute warp and bottle collect if the menu is still alright on these "sensible" situations?

I've tested the shovel + flute. All is normal, you can dig and then use the flute normally. Since the shovel is early in the game, it would not matter if you collect it later by obtaining bottles, since it would just go on NOP. Haven't tested what happens if the shovel is collected last.
 
I've tested all the rest (all shovel, flute possibilities) and it was like you said, these two items are separated, since the shovel is actually regarded as the "bottle", which opens the bottle menu. So this place has no connection with the flute (the flute space is 03= flute + bird automatically), but the separated bottles are also something else.
 
I've tested all possibilities with shovel, flute, 2 bottles. The only untested thing is, if you collect 4 bottles before getting the shovel (but this should be fine too, since Euclid separated 4 bottles from the spot which opens the bottle menu).
 
You can test this with cheats. The flute cheat is normal, the shovel cheat is not working= logical, since you now need a special bottle cheat to gain the shovel, and normal bottle cheat to gain normal 4 bottles. Judging from the cheats perspective (and thus the RAM), everything is ok.

This Pack was rejected at Romhacking twice: first reson was - unfilled hashes (they actually want 5 hashes of the original rom to patch to: CRC32, MD5, SHA-1, SHA-256, internal checksum). I've fixed that, but now I got this:

I have no desire to submit this again (third time), certainily not individually, since then I would have to make exactly 20 sumbissions (I have couted the individual hacks). Even if icerod variants are merged (which will probably be rejected also), this is still 12 submissions, and making one is difficult enough (7 "pure" shortcut uploads must be made for one submission: 5 for screens, one is txt, one is main zip; all must be direct downloads uppon click).
 
The problem is not in me doing this, but rather that the main idea is lost. This was always a pack, so a collection of small (ASM) hacks. Making an entire submission out of just one feature is somewhat illogical, since one submission usually eaquals to one actual long hack (such as Parallel Worlds for instance).

I would recomend keeping this pack here on Zeldix and for the public version we can link the one on AST Zelda forum.

Ah, well. Then we forget about romhacking. If they make it so difficult to supply your effort, they just won't get it then ^^

Furthermore, Euclid told at the other forum some problems with the shovel anyway I need to fix.

romhacking.net is for some things a very stupid place. Some translations or translation from zelda pw,pr and gow was also rejected because they have no suitable area for this...

Did you know that you also can run through pots using the boots when having L2+ sword?

Didn't know but it's amazing, we could probably create long lines of pots in dungeons and then use the peg switch blocks to make a maze and we could go though all of them! Someone who wouldn't know this would probably find it painfull to lift them all one at a time though lol

You know SePH, 30 MB is the first limit on romhacking for a file. Special check has to be checked out if it is bigger, but I think it will be accepted. The PU will also be accepted (did you know you have to submit 5 ID hashes for the original rom, CRC32, MD5, SHA-1 and SHA-256, even the internal checksum id). I've looked into it, and I can actually fix the internal checksum of the any hack now.

Regarding the multi pots. The game actually won't allow it. There's a limit of how many pots or pegs can be in the room. To many will put the balast ones (that go over the limit) to NOP (as they were not there).

I have to admit I'm not good at all at creating ips patches! For PW Euclid took care of that job and I never bothered learning ever since, so once we release this hack I'll probably leave that job for you actually Razz

30mb limit? I didn't know. Good thing to know actually. My current faq rendition (in msword doc format) is 714 pages and weights 35.6mb unzipped. Compressed with 7zip and the settings set to ultra only gets it down to: 29.0mb :/

But fear not since I'll convert the faq in Adobe pdf format before release. In fact I've already converted my version 1.8.3 in pdf for a trial and it weights 15.2mb unzipped! So yeah takes about half the size already. Compressing it into 7zip afterwards didn't mather much since it's new size was 14.5mb.

I remember adding many pots to a room and some of them wouldn't work... so that's why.

It can be above 30MB to (you just need to warn about this with a single click on the checking box, which says above 30MB or something similar). Making an IPS is very easy, but I would recomend the UPS patch actually (similar to IPS; but it has a checksum of the original file and wont allow false patching). Anything, just not IPS is better (can also be xdelta etc). Submitting is another thing (that's quite difficult, specially for people who have yet not submitted the file to romhacking.net).

Not everything can be done to one rom. For instance you can not have a icerod freezing water and icerod freezing lava ground at the same time in one rom (paradox). Also PW shovel is only for PW nothing else. The rest was taken into consideration if merged, but there's a change that the hacked rom hasn't got free space, where Alttp has it. So you should look at the pointers and adopt them. I need to do this anyway in GoT, since I don't have so much empty FF bytes at 77AB0. So every JSL can be adopted since it is a long jump, the short jump can not be (but I think only 2 hacks use them in that first bank of around 9F0 - I've tested if this is actually empty, since it used to have an effect on ending sequence, but it is not so in this case).
 
My HP (small mods) are compatible to any Zelda3 hack (and Alttp) with No header. This time they must be IPS, since UPS would not allow you to patch them to multiple files (skip the checksum function was tested, and the result was a corrupted rom).

No. My dropbox is dead for a long time - the program got corrupt and reinstalling did not work. But the shortcut is from 2013, so all that ASM data was later collected in the so called All-in patch. So you should be able to get all Conn's ASM files. In my collection they were rether all separate, and hex based (rather than assembler based) so I could quickly insert any code via hex, but only the one's I would want to insert.

I can also reupload this particular pack if you are interested in having this specific version of Conn's ASM codes.
