SD2Snes Pro Announced

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
I'm just hoping the hardware is final for a good few years and that there won't be a shitload of revisions like the current cart. At least I can sell my Rev. E1 to partially fund it when it comes out.

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
@Relikk Yes, I agree. It was cumbersome constantly making hardware revisions to the original board just to get to it to version H alone. Even worse for some if they had the first iteration.
@Conn I'm sure they will. It does suck for current owners having to modify their sd2snes to get the msu1 audio fixed for good. Hopefully now, we will get some proper save state support (optional for me, but it would be nice to have). Don't care too much for SuperFX overclocking.

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
@ToAll, I may not own one of these, but I did take a look at the price for the current one. Will the Pro version cost more then what the OG is listed at? I also agree that I hope it will last a few good years as well.

Cool, Thank you very much for letting me know that.

@ToAll I have a link for a youtube video the smokemonster had made talking to Ikari, here it is , also I did included it in the link by the timestamp for Ikari is 1:40. I hope that helps

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
I like to see the PCB ...." Rev B "..
Here we go again !
I won't rush for this new board (and YES.. I also suffer from those multiple PCB revision...)
They say that "patience is virtue".. yeah yeah.....

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
Great, out of curiosity, is the start+select+.... saving when playing msu1 games issue fixed now in this version?

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
I have no idea. Never used any of the in-game hooks for button combinations, myself.

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
Oh, I thought it is mandatory to use this combination in order to save your progress in msu mode... how did you safe your progress in zelda or whatever then?

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
@Conn Based on smokemonster's interview with Ikari, I understand that with the sd2snes pro, it will now be possible to create a FPGA based APU to fully control all audio from the sd2snes cart side. This will allow the ability to capture all states (game and audio) and properly restored them. Also, it was mentioned that this was only possible for Super NES owners, superNT owners are left out (hopefully not, as I want to get a superNT eventually).
This is something not possible with the current sd2snes. As far as I know, there is no room in this old FPGA to implement something like this. The current method just restores the game's state but not the SPC700/DSP side of things (hence you get audio from the previous save state or weird audio glitches).

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
Thanks Pev. Reading your message lets me think this issue is solved.
You can also hold the reset button in order to save your progress, next to the button combination (maybe Relikk used this technique).
Here's what I use to write in my docs in sram supported games:
Here's a discussion with qwerty trying to help solving the issue:
https://github.com/mrehkopf/sd2snes/issues/80
Maybe Qwerty can shed some light here now whether this issue is (hopefully) solved with the new FPGA?

SD2SNES Note: Problems with saving is a known issue with MSU-1 enhanced games on the SD2SNES.The game saves only with this technique your progress: In order to save permanently, you'll need to "Save and Quit", and then either press L+R+Select+X or press and hold the reset button on your console long enough so that it resets to the SD2SNES main menu.

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
@Conn I'm sorry Conn, I misunderstood. I though you were talking about save-states. As far as I know about the holding the RESET button, that I am not sure off.
Maybe the question can be brought up at the Krikzz forums for a definite answer. But honestly, with bigger FPGA space, I am very confident that issue will be put to bed for good.

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
wow, so the sd2snes really has been rebuilt. that’s cool, which that being said do you guys think this will have a longer shelf life than the OG one had, or will they make revisions on it? Just wondering because I have never used something like this before.

That is indeed how I did it.

SD2Snes Pro Announced
@Conn Yeah, holding the reset button is a minor inconvenience. But hopefully the sd2snes pro will save SRAM in real time this time around.

Will the Conker CHRT MSU 1 files work just fine on the pro sd2snes?

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
I guess you need to find someone with a sd2snes pro cartridge to answer this question ....

If it works on the original SD2SNES, it'll work on the Pro. Apologies if it doesn't, I just don't know because I haven't played it.

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
I heard that with the pro model they are upgrading the FPGA in in the cart. Apparently the current FPGA is not being produced anymore or discontinued so its hard to find that part.
It may also be possible with the new FPGA to literally simulate other older consoles. One possibility was the Super Game Boy cart.
It would be really cool if older consoles like the NES, Atari 2600 and others could literally be simulated on the SD2SNES pro model. Very cool stuff could happen here.

Re: SD2Snes Pro Announced
I rather like them to focus on SNES only.. For the super gameboy, why not ??!!
For other consoles..... you have already raspberry pie for that....
