Dear Raw64life,

Hello my name is Polargames, feel free to call me Polar. To answer you post, RPG's of any kind are a pain to msu. They require a lot of work trying to find the right mute point. Even when one feels they have the perfect mute point, it can be not true. They also have a long list of bugs, that when it comes to play testing, can cause a lot of head ache. That is just on the coding side and play testing, when it comes to the pcm's they too are a pain because a lot of music has to be substituted and that takes a lot of time and work also. All the msu patches here are done in people's free time, so some games do get left out. While I understand that Dragons Quest is a great series that a lot off people enjoy, the amount of work required is way to much for just one person to do. As of now we have only one major msu person. So your request may or may not be done. If you are good at ASM code, your more then welcome to try to msu those games yourself Smile. For payment Zeldix cannot accept any kind. Its a violation of the site rules and code of conduct. I hope that my answer has help you out, and please feel free to try the games we have done. Thank you very much. Smile

Thanks for the quick and shockingly formal response. I'll just keep praying I guess.

You see, we make msu patches for more than 5 years now, there are not many hackers left. Qwertymodo from time to time makes new patches, he's still working on chrono trigger (final version) and Zelda Link's Awakening. PepilloPev and gizaha sometimes still surprise us with new patches... Kurrono and DarkShock left for good.

I desperately try to retire for four years now with more or less success, but I refuse to start any further projects (have done and co-worked on 80-100 I think). Like Polar pointed out, RPG:s are worst:
- the debugging needs several complete playthroughs (very time-consuming)
- there are a lot of tracks, where not all can be found in a remastered version.

Zelda Link's awakening has over 100 tracks, qwerty is working for 4 months already on it. We are lucky that we have a switch re-release for new tracks. Sure, it is super gameboy but usually all RPG:s are like that.

So all in all I doubt you will find somebody who wants to msu the 5 (?) dragon quest games for snes... also you need to find the remastered themes for the games.

This is a response regarding the Dragon Quest games, and anything else in general.

I have a proposal, but it won't exactly be the most elegant solution, but maybe provide the bare minimum.

I would say for the more complicated tracks within the DQ games can be left alone, but what about the most simple tracks like the Battle Themes? This is under the assumption that coding around the Battle Themes wouldn't be too monumental of a task.

Maybe this can apply to any other snes game out there with complex coding; only work with the SNES tracks that are the easiest to work with, and others can eventually pick it up and further improve it if it proves too much of a burden when it comes to the harder tracks.

Basically each SNES game will have a progression bar on the community page based on who picked it up to work with MSU-1, and they can upload their patch after testing, and the older patch is archived and lists the completed MSU-1 Tracks that was implemented.

Kind of like a Open Source Community Project that everybody can contribute to it. I'm sure there is awesome coders out there that we probably didn't know existed.

I think the guys from Retroarch who do the cores probably have some good understanding how the SNES games tick; they might know something that could make MSU-1 implementation a much more smoother process than how it is currently done at the moment.

This is all speculation, so I do apologize if I'm wrong on some points.

On a side note - There was a person I talked with a long while back who is actually working on the DQ games, but I haven't heard from him in a long time now.

Regarding Dragon Quest... I downloaded the orchestrated soundtracks last month with the aim of editing them and having them ready should anyone ever attempt to patch them, but based off of the original SPC's for DQ 1 & 2 there appears to be 10 tracks missing from the orchestrated soundtrack. That kind of annoyed me and I never continued with that work.

These are the missing tracks.

Erdrick's Descendant
Dark Dungeon 1, 2, 3 & 4
Throne of Darkness
Travelling With Friends
Ever Upwards
Malroth ~ The True Evil
Echoing Flute (this one is more attainable through editing the other flute track)

Depending on the complexity on how the SPC is utilized, it may be possible to just have SPC fallback for PCMs that are not present. They can be added later as remastered tracks appear. Conn has done this on many occasions with some RPGs he worked on.

Zeldal wrote:Basically each SNES game will have a progression bar on the community page based on who picked it up to work with MSU-1
This is how we normally operate when one dev picks up a project. The real issue is finding someone willing to start another project and have a passion for it. In all honesty, Conn is really the only remaining active dev here. Luckily, he volunteered on some RPGs. The key word again is the "passion". Some of those other RPGs he had genuine interest in.

Zeldal wrote:I think the guys from Retroarch who do the cores probably have some good understanding how the SNES games tick
I encourage you to reach out and see if someone will bite out there. As stated before, there is really only one active dev here now. He already has other projects opened. You can always ask. The worst that can happen is just a simple 'no'.

I understand your passion to have the DQ games done. I had the same problem 2+ years ago. I saw nothing being done with specific games of interest. This sole reason alone is why I began learning to hack my personal favorite games to incorporate MSU-1. My collection is pretty much complete and I ran my course here (except for three more games I am working on at slow pace). All I do is maintenance stuff now on this site. I believe, Conn is in the same place but I will leave it up to him to respond with his own words. I cannot speak for him.

In all, I wish the best of luck to you in getting this game done. It sucks loving a game and not having some 'awesome' feature on it.

Strange, I wanted to reply with the same sentence about you Wink

Yeah, I wrote the essential stuff already in my post above. I am retired, and won't touch a new project I think. I co-worked in 100+ projects, writing code is easy but tetsing, esp. when it comes to RPG... disgusting. And DQ are... 6 games?

Maintainance of the 160+ hacks we currently provide is hell, you can ask Pev. Every day there is some links to excange, pm:s to reply, replying to messages, bugs to fix.

Unfortunately, there aren't many coders here, this is mainly Pev, qwerty and me currently. DarkShock and Kurrono left and gizaha and insidious are spending their energy into one patch mainly.
So I can only cross my fingers that you find a passionate hacker for DQ.

As always, i will offer my help in playtesting, map tracking, and creating PCM if a new project gets started by a developer. I am pretty good at finishing up projects that get stated. Though it does appear that the MSU-1 projects are coming to a close. Honestly, it is amazing we got 160+ games to MSU-1 and i am pretty dang satisfied but my help and assistance is available to anyone that does want to continue to develop more.

It's really a pitty, but we have ever been only a few people developing msu1 patches. Pev wasn't seen a long time unfortunately, Kurrono does NES now and I only do maintainance for the stuff we have (and even only that is open-end work, seeing SMW2, Knights of the round, I recently had to fix). So my apologies to all people out there but I do not expect further patches soon Sad

Just wanted to attract some attention to this awesome hack:

Having MSU-1 on this would be great, as it features the 9 extra levels removed from MK3 to save space, besides making Sheeva playable.

Now that Fire Emblem 5 Thracia 776 has 2 complete translation patches:
- Project Exile
https://www.romhacking.net/translations/4653/

and it's off-shoot with so much improvements:
- Lil' Manster
https://forums.serenesforest.net/index.php?/topic/90189-fe5-lil-manster-pe-based-english-translation-translations-to-es-fr-de-it-tr/

The only thing missing would be MSU-1 support.
Lil' Manster with all of the QoL changes, the impeccable translation only misses some of the amazing arranged and orchestrated OSTs that released since it's release.

I'm crossing my fingers.

Hello everyone.  Relatively new site user here.
What an awesome site.
Have been able to enhance many snes roms with better sound.  Thanks.

Hopefully someday there will something for:

Breath of Fire
&
Breath of Fire II

Also, I came across on YouTube an

Orchestrated ChronoTrigger Album

Malcolm Robinson.
At first I wondered if this is the same guy.

Hi all, I just discovered your site for the MSU1 SNES
I was a friend of the faulty NIGHTMARE BUSTERS game programmer!
I created with friends of my association PGR the Nightmare Busters Collector's Edition.
https://mag.mo5.com/actu/68641/les-packs-collector-de-nightmare-busters-encore-disponibles/

I have mp3 audio tracks in cd quality before Snes conversion. And it would be wonderful to be able to adapt it to MSU1.
Thank

I would really love to see some Sailor Moon games with MSU-1 Support. There are official arranged CD's by the Anime series composer Takanori Arisawa for some of the games that I would like to see:

BISHOUJO SENSHI SAILOR MOON (Japan)/Sailor Moon (France)
https://sailormusic.net/game/sailormoon-super-famicom-edition/

BISHOUJO SENSHI SAILOR MOON R (Japan):
https://sailormusic.net/game/sailormoon-r-game-music/
Note: This game has an English fan translation:

Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon S: Jougai Rantou!? Shuyaku Soudatsusen (Japan) and Bishoujo Senshi Sailor Moon SuperS: Zenin Senkai!! Shuyaku Soudatsusen (Japan):
https://sailormusic.net/game/sailormoon-s-game-music-super-famicom-edition/
Notes: Super S has an awesome hack that includes music from S, the first beat em game, and maybe R?

Sailor Saturn doesn't have a theme on this CD, but this CD has one:

BISHOUJO SENSHI SAILOR MOON: ANOTHER STORY (Japan)

My dream MSU1 games are Aerobiz Supersonic and (especially) the original Aerobiz, both of which have packs here on the site already, just no hack to utilize them yet. I'd basically kill for them. The original always had great music, and the PS1/Saturn arrangements are fantastic. Supersonic had lacking music that would be really nice to be able to improve.

I hate to be a Debbie downer, but the msu1 code train has been halted for a while now. You might have a small chance of a patch sometime in the future, I would not count on it. You are more then welcome though to make your own MSU1 patch. Smile

It would be amazing to see all the Sailor Moon games, including the Sufami Turbo one if it's ever possible, to be made with MSU-1 support. I'd love to hear a real end credit proper (Sunshine Moonlight) instead of the generic SNES credit from Another Story.
