Parallel Worlds Newbie

Post by Atalanta4evR on Fri 21 Oct 2016 - 12:01

Hi Zeldixers, wishing you a great start to your weekend.

So I recently gave hacks a try and have played a couple Zelda 3 hacks. Goddess of Wisdom, and Parallel Worlds , and Parallel Worlds Remodel, plus the Quest two games for PW.

I have a couple of questions before completing the 2nd quests.

1) Is the max number of hearts less than 10. I have 9.75 hearts.

2) I was following a vid and the player mentioned something about a secret room in the Castle that will take you to the Icy World.(PWQ2) is that true. The vid was from LucarioPlayer.

3) The outside visible door at the top of the Guardhouse, is it accessible? If so, clue in please.

4) That Guardhouse room on the eastern side headed towards the big chests room... it has a southern opened door and a block in barrels, is it just a red herring?

Thank you for any replies...

2) I was following a vid and the player mentioned something about a secret room in the Castle that will take you to the Icy World.(PWQ2) is that true. The vid was from LucarioPlayer.
No dungeon which you entered in the light world can bring you to ice/dark world. The game will not allow that. PWQ2 plays almost identically as PWQ1, but you don't get a hookshot. So now you simply must do the math, what can be reached and what not. PS I'm not a fan of Q2, since now you play each dungeon half way through. Only 2 crystal dungeons can be finished.

Ice/dark world can be reached Only at the Triforce shrine (not even warps exist due to worlds being to different). So the statement of a "secret room" which brings you from the Castle to ice world is inacurate. Certainly it does not refer to an indoor room. The first time you reach the dark world is due to Agahnim's magic (this however is logical, as the code is the same as in the original game).

So the only way to reach Ice world is: Agahnim's magic initial warp, and warping with the Mirror in the Triforce shrine overworld area behind/north of the Castle (maybe Lucario meant that). This was special ASM by Euclid, which allowed the use of Mirror only at that Triforce overworld area to warp from Light to Ice world and also from Ice to Light world (as you know in original game the Mirror does not work vice versa).

3) The outside visible door at the top of the Guardhouse, is it accessible? If so, clue in please.
That section is decoration only. The entrance up there has no definition, and thus can not be entered, ie "fake"/decoration. (Wish of the original authors, not my wish).

4) That Guardhouse room on the eastern side headed towards the big chests room... it has a southern opened door and a block in barrels, is it just a red herring?
That door is "fake" - decoration only. (Wish of the original authors, not my wish).

1) Is the max number of hearts less than 10. I have 9.75 hearts.
Seems like you are refering to PRQ2 (and not PWQ2).
Here are the tables:

Optimal HUD and Inventory of Parallel Remodel Quest 1:

20 and 1/4 heart containers and all items, with one hole in the Inventory (should be Shovel, but game did not allow both items at once). Note: the version 1.2 fixes this empty space with Conn's new ASM to also allow shovel, which closes this annoing gap in the middle of the inventory. The thing did not make it to "official" version, as it was an "addendum" hack.

Optimal HUD and Inventory of Parallel Remodel Quest 2:

10 and 1/4 heart containers possible. Around half items missing, 2 bottles before Ganon, otherwise 3 for after Ganon rooms. Note: one heart piece is glitched (in the waterfall cave) due to game's mechanics. Thus there is always 1/4 over the full amount to certainly get the max possible containers.
PS I wanted to turn off the Quest-2 completely, but did not how to at the time (I do now). I had to find some compromise: at least one row of hearts and "turning off" the entire ice world seems reasonable, as without hookshot you can not solve most of its dungeons. However the Quest-2 still seems as somekind of an unwanted easter egg, similar to some speed-run plays. Like said: I would just turned it off completely today.
---------

Optimal HUD and Inventory of Parallel Worlds Quest 1:

20 and 1/4 hearts possible and all items (one gap remains).

Optimal HUD and Inventory of Parallel Worlds Quest 2:

18 and 3/4 heart pieces and almost all items, except hookshot and 4th bottle, golden glove/bracelet, shield-3 and 5 crystals. Like said: I'm not a fan of the second quests, as you can solve the game "half way" and need to stop in the middle of dungeons, since you don't have the hookshot. But I can understand Euclid's wishes for such a quest - sort of a speed-run, heard mode. Unfortunatelly only 5 rooms or so are phisically different/new/added, since the game mechanics simply will not allow for you to load "new dungeons" due to room limit. It would be bette to make a second quest on a separate rom with more modifications to rooms, sprites and their HP etc.

1) Is the max number of hearts less than 10. I have 9.75 hearts.
So the short answer here is that you are missing 2 heartpieces, however the one in the Waterfall cave is glitched due to game mechanics. So there is a trick on how to collect them both: you simply must do it in the correct order. However sometimes collectiong them both is just not working. For this reason there is always 1 heart piece extra in the game. If you can get 2 heart pieces from the Waterfall cave, you are thus at 1/4 heart pieces above the maximum.

This is valid for all PW series: PW and PR, quests 1 and 2, and versions 1.0 and 1.1. So in all version possible you can get 20 heart containers on Quests-1. But in Quests-2 the number of heart container is lower: an orthodox 18 and 3/4 with the glitched piece collected, otherwise 18 and 2/4 for PWQ2, but the 10 and 1/4, otherwise 10 and 0/4 for PRQ2.

So in other words, the game that you are playing will allow exactly 10 heart containers at max, ie exactly one row (which is not a coincidence).

PS
I do not have the heart piece location lists.

If I remember correctly: I have put an easter egg in Parallel Remodel Quest-2. Goes like this: Finish the game. On viewing the The end screen reset the game. Start the game normally and start the game-play file. You will be a bunny in the Ice world. There you can collect 3 heart pieces, you are however trapped in a small space, since you can not lift bushes. Once you get the heartpieces, save and quit the game. Start the game again and you should be back at your house.

I'm guessing you are missing those easter egg heart pieces.

PPS
To beat the game, you actually need to enter and exit the small wooden entrance in the far south east forest of the light world. You reach it with the dash-jump. Once you get around 2000 rupees or so, upgrade your arrow capacity to 99 and buy 2 blue potions. Now fly to Ganon. Since you have 0 crystals, he will need around 70 hits with silver arrows in the final phase (not may wish). There are some rooms after Ganon, one room is even glitched on snes9x and real hardware due to too many elemets in one room, where you then use X+R buttons to see the floor.

Like said: I'm not a fan of second quests. This is meant only for expert players/TAS runners/speed runners/hero mode/master quest players.

Today I would turn the 2nd quest off completely to not bother the players with it. This however is not that easy, since you then need to remove the Stone tablets and adopt the entire ending sequence monologues with all second quest/stone tablets reference messages.

Howdy PD, thank you for the reply. I guess I have some searching to do. I have no access to dungeon maps so I will have to visit them all to see which are out of play.

One of my favorite things about Zelda is that you can always find something new even years later.

Hoping to take a whack at your PuzzleDude's Quest soon.

You ladies and gents have a good one. Smile

Update:  I guess I won't be on a search in PWRQ2. Smile Btw, your game PuzzleDude's Quest has been added to the site so I can give it a go.

I still find it odd that you use Online play for your Snes emulation, but whatever makes you happy. Also note: this is a very old hack, I was a semi rookie at the time and could barely hold the rom in a non-bugged state. Still, the game is a beatable remodel/master quest of a Link to the Past with some orthodox choices, like the overworld mazes. Do note: I actually don't like this design today and will of course however not tackle with this rom again. So if you don't like those mazes, don't expect me to change it. Furthermore: you can load the rom in Hyrule Magic program and remove them, but like said, I doubt you will do that, since I believe you use online play.

Good Morning Zeldixers, I hope you're having a great day so far.

Well PD, I'm just adding to my list of games but I love old school. and I'm actually going to sell off my very limited Nintendo gear. The computer affords me the ease of access I require.

Not to worry PD, I'll make the most of "PuzzleDude's Quest" when I begin it. Trust me I've played some OS games that I'm sure didn't measure up to your work.

If there is any help aids on it out there I won't post here for any. Smile

And I know that the game is done and not open to change. My goodness, I'd think you have learned a world of techs since then and your newer projects reflects that knowledge.

My posts to you and others like Seph and Euclid were only because for me "Zelda" is an icon of the gaming industry and one to not go drastic on. However you guys did and I enjoyed both version of PW and then GoW. Even my gaming partner who has much more knowledge than I about games has enjoyed them and compliments you guys on your work.

PD thank you for the advice... have a super day. Smile

Good Morning Zeldixers, I hope you're enjoying a wonderful Tuesday.

I am puzzled by something and I'm sure you gamers who know about the mechanics of a vid game can fill me in.

I was under the impression that with enemies the kill amount was always a programmed and set amount of hits. Okay so the game "Zelda 3 Parallel Worlds Remodel Quest 2 is a hacked game so the rules may ave changed. However, I have seen a few people complete this end game and the hit amount for Ganon was always around 75 arrows give or take a few.

So why did I use 96 arrows before he went down?

Yes, I used an online site to play the game and yes, I abused SAVE and RELOAD. My magic never got to the point where i had to use a new bottle of potion, I ended the battle with full hearts (the 9 I had) and both bottles of blue potion, plus my magic meter was full except for the use to light both lanterns once. I will give you that I had less than ten errant arrows... as I said I abused reload when i got hit and when my arrows missed. Also I hit Ganon often with double hits that registered.

Now, if Ganon was programmed to explode with a certain number of hits, why did I use so many arrows.

My fear at 8 arrows was that at 0 arrows Ganon would LOL at me and I'd have to redo that battle.

Btw PD, I don't see a way to gather items after the end game. I can't get back to my file using the online vehicle. *shrugs*

Thanks guys and dolls for cluing me in.

Depends how many you misfired. You say you misfired 10. You thus hit him 86 times, which is within a limit, since it also depends uppon your battle in the beginning stage of the Ganon-fight. If you hit him as much as possible, then this counts into the final stage. However even if spamming him as much as possible, it will then take around 70-75 hits with arrows. If you are more passive in the beginning stage of the fight, he will need more hits than 75. It is all about the moment just before the final stage begins - there you can profit at least 7 hits. If you don't, the number is then around 80 to 85 hits.
This was not my choice though. I would gladly bring this down to 40 if I could. But it seems the programing behind it depends on the number of crystals. In PWQ2 you have none, thus Ganon became unintentionally hard.

Btw PD, I don't see a way to gather items after the end game. I can't get back to my file using the online vehicle. *shrugs*
So you can not reset the game after the The end screen? Or load a played game-file via Srm? In this case you can not get that easter egg, as all devices are capable of saving the game via standard SNES saving system SRM. But that's ok, you are just missing 3 unimportaint heart pieces.

Hi PD, how are you today?

So it seems I forgot about the beginning of the battle with Ganon. I used the Cane of Byrna to protect e as i dealt sword blows to Ganon. This went on for the entire of the battle until he stopped using the trident.

Also, I seem to recall that about halfway during the arrows portion of the battle Ganon again uses the trident. However, this never happened with me. I was surprised at that... I have seen the end game of Z3PWRQ2 and I'm pretty sure Ganon brought the trident out during the arrows portion. I guess Also threw a bomb or two at him as well as the boomerang. Just to see if they'd be effective. They weren't!  Smile

Yeah, it's a shame I can't get back to the file but I played athe game enough to replay it some day even knowing I won't do 100%.

Thanks again... btw, have you seen the Parallel Worlds Glitches video by teamudf? Smile Kind'a gives us a peek into the making of a vid game ... just a peek though. He was able to get the hookshot using something called the "Dash Glitch."  Very handy looking glitch and I'd love to learn it for next play through.  Smile

That's because I reduced his health as much as possible: he thus does not make 2 cicles. He will never go back to "trident" phase after already in the "silver arrows" phase. In such a case and with 0 crystals he might just need 120 arrows all together due to 2 "silver arrows" phases.

Thanks again... btw, have you seen the Parallel Worlds Glitches video by teamudf? Smile Kind'a gives us a peek into the making of a vid game ... just a peek though. The "dash glitch" can be performed only on devices which support "cheating", ie rewriting of the RAM. If you rewrite a certain value, you can walk across pits while pressing the running button. And if Impa's ways, you can traverse to the next Hyrule Magic room and glitch up the game (gfx/pas wice) as well as gameplay.

This glitch is not easy to do, since it sometimes works, but some emus will not allow. It is much better to use the "walk through walls" cheat/glitch. With this you can see how the indoors is constructed, however it is much easier to just load the game in Hyrule Magic. However PW is specific and you will first need to adopt the rom to be able to open it and make even further edits of the pointers to actually see indoors, as their data was moved to the end of the rom.

"Walk through walls" cheat/glitch will give you even greater insight on how the game is constructed, specially indoors. Nothing much actually, it is just a grid of rooms, from 0-255, equal to 00-FF in hex, plus the additional rooms to 295, from 0-15 is 16 rooms in one line before switching to new line.

Maybe it is easier to actually open the original Zelda3 rom in HM and look how it is made. You don't really need cheats for that.

Good Afternoon, good to have Zeldix back up.

Thank you PuzzleDude for your concise posts on the Z3PWR/Q2 games. If i play it again I may take a different tactic with the end game. Might! Smile And in viewing both PWR and PW end games this morning, I see that in the 2nd Quest that little bugger requires a lot more arrows than I thought.  I thought he required only about 40 hits. But you posted correctly when you quoted me and replied.

Still have yet to play the PW end game. Kind'a engrossed in PuzzleDude's Quest right now.

Enjoy whatever you guys and dolls throwback today.  Smile
