The Legend of Zelda - A Link To The Past :: Comments

RedScorpion managed me to make a version of this patch that is compatible to all PAL versions (it even is also compatible with the NTSC version).
If you re-download the patch from the first post, you will find the subfolder "short_NTSC_PAL". You can apply this patch (alttp_msu1_short.ips) on any headerless ALTTP rom (PAL/NTSC, doesn't matter) to have msu1. All pcm packages are compatible with it as well (patched rom name must (of course) still be alttp_msu.sfc to be compatible with all pcm sets).
However, this patch should be incompatible with some other patches you find on this site (since it uses free space in the inexpanded area, other than the "old" alttp_msu1.ips). But those hacks are for the US version anyways.
Also, it has no msu video (try to find it in all languages...).
So for the US version I still recommend using the "old" patch (to have patch compatibility and a video) though the "short" patch is also compatible.

very nice the patch is ok with Legend of Zelda, The - A Link to the Past (France) Thank You i go to try on SNESM if ok too thank RedScorpion and Conn

That was fast - I checked compatibility with both G versions (20555, 20662), E and F, US (NTSC), J 1.0, Rev2(B). All compatible.
Also the espanol and swedish translations at romhacking is compatible....
So in short - no version found yet that isn't compatible
Edit:
It's of course also compatible with Goddess of Wisdom (uses the E rom, which is covered), and parallel remodel. Parallel Worlds (1.3) already has the possibility for msu included (by qwerty). Parallel Worlds (1.0) is compatible as well (if anybody wants to play it, maybe because there is a German version available).
All other rom hacks that do not use asm in the area 0xdb600-0xdb7ff should be compatible as well, if it isn't you need to use the the "old patch" with the video, that uses expanded areas.

Awesome work, Conn. Was the PAL compatibility the only change to the patch?

Oh it's not a change, it's more like a completely new patch with a different approach (alttp was my very first msu patch and thus the code is a bit sophisticated). The new code is much more clean thus having the high compatibility (pal and ntsc), but doesn't have the video anymore (the video is obsolete, we do not have it in another language than English). Also it uses free Rom space in the native Rom size, so expansion isn't necessary anymore, but disadvantage of this is that it might be incompatible with some of my other patches (item adjusting or whatever).
So I'd still recommend the old patch with video, but can also understand if people want to play alttp in their mother tongue, therefore the new (pal compatible).
If you download the patch package you still find the old "alttp_msu1.ips" with video support first. The new patch "alttp_msu1_short.ips" is in the subfolder "short_ntsc_pal".
My brain didn't come up with a better name

I'm just starting to try and get this to work, but noticed that before I even started I think a song may be missing from the MSU? It goes straight from alttp_msu-14 to alttp_msu-16 - does 15 exist? Or is it not important?
Everything looks complicated to set up, but I'm willing to try once I find out if 15 exists or not, haha.
Thank you for any assistance.

I just noticed this (and never did before). I have 3 MSU soundtracks for ALTTP: namely 2014, 2016 (louder volume) and A Link between Worlds version and all 3 are missing track 15. So there are 34 PCM files, that go from 1 to 35 (with 15 missing). Yet the soundrack works just fine in all 3 cases. I'm using snes9x which was recoded for supporting MSU and here you just need the rom file, all PCMs and the video file, all with correct names. And all works fine for me, including the intro video.Lanabean wrote:I'm just starting to try and get this to work, but noticed that before I even started I think a song may be missing from the MSU? No worries, 15 is just the intro triforce without the first part. It's unused
I think you can cheat 7e012c-0f or 002140-0f to hear it

Yep, track 15 is unused. I used it in Parallel Worlds 1.2 as an alternate overworld theme but it's not used in the vanilla game.

Hi Guys,
it seems there is a black screen bug witht he german version with the current version (w/o video).
When you defeated the Armor Knights, you got the amulet, the text appears on screen. and after this the black screen occurs. Testes on current snes9x with qwertymodos msu support and sd2snes with current version 1.9.0.
@Con: Could you try to fix the problem?
thanks

Mmh, i recently made the title screen longer since some title msu themes are cut off otherwise. The chance is small but possible that this now causes your bug. Can you check the normal msu patch as well?
I'm on vacation right now without my pc and fly back tomorrow.
Edit:
Snes lorom to make the title screen last longer:
org $0CC270
db $7A
See if you restore it from 7a to 2a if your bug still occurs.

You are right. This fix the blackscreen! The english version hasn't this change, so it should not occur there.
you mean the intro title screen?!
Thanks

Yes, There are msu themes in some pcm sets for the title screen where the length exceeds the sword through zelda animation and these themes get cut off. So I extended the title to last 2 seconds longer but didn't imagine it has such severe side effects. I'll reverse it in a few hours (unfortunately I also changed that for the video version). Too bad.

ok, I reversed the elongated title screen (redownload patch, should work now). Guess those who make pcm sets have to take care that the title theme fits. Sorry for the trouble.

Thanks but the music seems in wrong order.

So this is a project I actually did almost a year ago, I just never took the time to do the volume adjustments. It is really different than the other sets of PCM tracks.
These MSU-1 Audio tracks features a new soundtrack to A Link To The Past by taking iconic remastered songs throughout the Zelda series. Some songs will remain the same track from the original Zelda: A Link To The Past soundtrack but a good majority of the songs will be a new track to listen to. In the Dark World you will hear a darker version of Gerudo Valley, fighting in Hyrule Castle you will hear a epic remake of the Zelda 2 Temple theme, in the chapel listen to a choir and strings to the track The Temple of Time from Ocarina of Time, and this is just a few you will hear. This alternative soundtrack is great for anyone that has already beaten the game a few times and wants to change things up. I especially like using these alternative tracks for the Zelda 3 Randomizer to change things up. I have a youtube preview video if you are interested. Give it a try and hope you enjoy!
(If you can add to the first post conn that would be great. also include the youtube video link preview if you could, thanks.)

Hi Conn, you actually have the wrong link to the YouTube preview under my PCM playlist, try this one.

Whoops, that happened when copying pasting the video code from K4yr4h's link

Hello dear romhacker
I'm from Germany and I'm really bad in English.
That's why forgive the google translator. I have the same problem how do you change the bits. Which program do you need for this?
