@Cthulhu, it's alright right?

In your PATCH files, there is no explanation on how to use it, a README and such, I really believe in the need for this for "everyone" that would make it easier on how to correctly apply the patch, apart from that, most here of " us " is completely unfamiliar with programming and we still deal with language difficulties;
(I'm graduated in automation, electrical, music and even so I can't apply your patch-maybe I'm not that layman) remembering that, I have all the content on the A/Z site and I can clearly understand each patch from each person; finally: think about it and, if you think it's necessary, make a mini tutorial; in the more: thank you very much!!!

As edale already mentioned, it's my folder link that I switched to on 30/08 at his suggestion. It has been the same link since then; I just update the contents inside the folder now.
You shouldn't need to update the link anymore, unless either I or Mega delete this folder entirely for whatever reason.

VVV18 wrote:...

Hello...

Right now, there are only 3 files visible at the root folder, all of them are make scripts; if you double click any of them you will get this:
Code:
[ERROR] No ROM! Drag and drop a ROM into this script.

Press any key to continue . . .

All the other possible errors are covered here: https://www.zeldix.net/t808p200-chrono-trigger#39545
Their error messages are all self explanatory though.

Currently I do not feel like or have the time to write a README (in fact, I'd to stop working on some of the projects I am currently active at just to update this), more so when I have already written troubleshooting in the form of detailed forum posts and as error handling from both the make scripts aswell as the ASM source code.
As I've mentioned early, I suffer from OCD and I always revise documents/documentations multiple times when I am the one writing them, making it a lengthy and stressful process for me.

As I've previously mentioned, if anyone wants to write a proper README, I'll gladly add it to the download folder (as long as it's written in correct english).
Otherwise, you can always guide yourself by executing one of the make scripts.

@Cthulhu, thank you so much for the explanation.

Too bad I don't know English, otherwise I'd read me but anyway, as you mentioned ( [ERROR] No ROM! Drag and drop a ROM into this script. Press any key to continue . . . ) just read the text inside the files (bat) that's it, thanks.

If you don't know english, a README won't make a difference.

The errors thrown by the make scripts work just like a README, the difference is that it only displays something for you to read when you need to read it.
Just copy and paste the error into an online translator if a language barrier is the problem.

Yes, they are indeed down. The download link that says "mirror" is the link you are looking for. I re-uploaded everything you need to that link as a back up. Qwertymodo has been pretty busy lately and these links have been down for awhile, i may just remove them all together to prevent confusion. Qwerty can always change it back when he finds the time to make new links.

Looks like it's only 11 tracks.

That said, if I get a copy of the audio, I'll convert it to PCMs.

Send me a reminder when it actually comes out, and I'll take a look around some japanese sites and see if I can't find a ripped copy.

FMV File only link does not work.
And FMV file in "Quertymodo Patch and FMV Download" has huge BETA on that.

Yes, both are true statements. At this time, we actually do not have a fully working fmv. I am hoping qwertymodo finishes that up soon but he is a busy guy, like the rest of us, just how life is.

As for the links, i will find some time soon to clean those up.

Ok, of course, I'm very grateful. That is awesome what you are doing. Maybe one sentence of comment at the very top would be enough for newbies like myself?

There is probably a way to do full quality FMVs for emulators. This approach requires extending MSU-1 to something I call MSU-1 VX (video extension).

These addresses are mapped to MSU-1 VX:

XX2008 (Input): error bitflags [10000111], Highest bit is set when there was an error; it's set together with any of the lower 3 bits. Lower 3 bits are set according to the type of error; from high to low bits: unsupported video format, invalid video, video not found.

XX2008-XX2009 (Output): low and high video id (same naming and addressing scheme as soundtracks).

Operation: By writing to XX2009, the emulator loads the video file; if loaded correctly, suspends emulation and starts playback of the video file. Once playback completes, resume emulation. Savestate support can also be implemented mid video playback.

Emulator requirements: The emulator or frontend to the emulator must have a video player capable of playing videos of certain format(s).

This will obviously not work with the original hardware as you can't bypass the PPU, but this is a viable way to have full quality video playback on the SNES via emulation.

As I've said before, I've no interest in Chrono Trigger FMVs, but if someone wants to make MSU-1 VX a real thing, I can provide coding assistance.

You'll probably don't find a qualified dev in this forum capable doing that (myself included, I can only code asm, but not an emu function)... Also there's the problem that most people want to have such a thing work on real hardware (fxpak/sd2snes) and I think the possibilities are limited. Personally I'm happy that we can have fmv, though quality is limited.
If you want to continue your idea, I'd suggest to tell it on byuu discord channel (bcord) or classic gaming discord channel.

The idea is that this system is completely compatible with standard MSU-1 FMVs. It would only depend on the author converting the frames into tiles to support the original MSU-1 format aswell as this.

Example:
Code:
lda.l $002008 ; A will be 0 on open bus
bne ++
lda.l $002002 ; A will be 0 on open bus
bne +
jml no_fmv
+
jml msu_fmv
++
jml ex_fmv

In reality, this has nothing to do with MSU-1, so I probably shouldn't have named it "an extension to MSU-1".

Ah, I am not developing it as I've no use for it right now. I am just throwing an idea that came up to me a while ago and could assist anyone wanting to implement it.

Just a quick question: I'm using a SD2SNES in combination with a Super NT. Does anyone else have some (video) artefacts on the top of the screen when playing the intro FMV? So no in the video itself, but in the "black border" bit around the video. I don't have the issue when running the FMV from BSNES on my laptop

I've been trying to use Cthulhu's patch to combine Chrono Trigger Plus (2.5.2) with MSU-1 tracks, however I get the message "ROM byte signature mismatch!" error.
As I don't know anything about programming and I'm trying to follow the hints given here, am I missing something or is it due to the hack having been apparently updated recently ?

As far I know the chrono trigger plus patch that you download here:
https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3691/
already has msu1 implemented, so you cannot apply cthulhu's patch on top

Correct, Chrono Trigger+ support MSU as is.
Readme also states this:
MSU-1 music fully integrated (still requires the tracks)

Allright ! Sorry I didn't notice and thank you both for your help, it's my first time with MSU games and I'm not that comfortable with manipulating these files.
Basically I renamed the patched Chrono Trigger+ rom as "chrono_msu.msu" with having along music files in the same folder and that seem to work as intended. Is it done right that way ?
