IMPORTANT SIDENOTE: DKC MSU1 and DKC MSU-1 Deluxe are two different and separate patches. It will not work right to use the original DKC MSU-1 Patch with the Deluxe PCM set and vice versa. Here is a quick link to DKC MSU-1 Deluxe

_Q_ wrote:I'm not sure how to convert music to PCM format, but I have a suggestion for a music pack. A guy on YouTube named Sam Miller is recreating music from the Donkey Kong Country games by disassembling the music, tracking down the original uncompressed sound samples that David Wise used, and recreating the tracks in much higher quality. They really sound amazing—you can listen to one example here (follow the video back to YouTube and check the description to download the track):
I'd like to create a music pack using the tracks Sam Miller has restored. (I'd probably use the official CD soundtrack for the tracks that haven't been restored, and then add in more restored tracks as Sam Miller releases them.)
This is pretty cool. I dont got time for another project but if you ever wanted to learn how to make PCM qwertymodo is an awesome guy that makes it not to complex to learn. You can see how here
https://www.zeldix.net/t1400-msupcm
and if you need help or get lost while trying to learn just come here to Zeldix and the community will help you out. I am just posting this just in case you would like to learn, because I have a lot of fun with it once I learned how.
I have a lot of stuff going on at the moment (including a few other hacking projects), so I don't want to commit to this at the moment. When I have some more time, I'll take a look, because I am interested in learning.
I don't know how to make these PCM files myself, but I did track down an EXCELLENT quality version of the remix of simian segue / bonus room from a good source if someone wants to update the pack:

The one in there now sounds a little washy like it was ripped from a low bitrate youtube video.

I didn't notice it before and now it's starting to annoy me, dammitVideogameScrapbook wrote:Just in case a skilled rom hacker wants to help fix an issue where the sound effects play faster than they should with this MSU hack (most noticeable when switching Kongs), here is some information from Conn who was unable to figure out a solution: "Yes, won't work, the hardcore apu mute was the only way I managed to get a clear spc mute. Maybe another hacker finds a better solution one day. This mute leads to the apu less busy resulting that sfx are played faster. Most people don't find that annoying, just unused. Myself, as said, find it even better. But I also understand that you want the original for your restoration project, but... unfortunately, I can't help "

I noticed that Sam Miller has published some more themes, e.g., life in the mines was uploaded at Dec.2.2019:
As far I remember you used something else for this theme. 23 hours ago he uploaded also misty menance. Maybe this is some stuff to add to and complete your set?

donkey kong own sounds (character) are messed up, why? intro and when in gameplay not touch the controller
This patch is tested by thousands people so I guess the problem is at your side... Either you used a rom with header or patched the European version with the us version or something like this...
Or you mean the SFX are playing too fast, this is an old problem we did not find a solution... But messed up sounds more terrible than this problem actually is

yes is SFX are playing too fast...i don't like it at all, when will be fixed?
I think Pev, qwerty and I gave it a shot and we all failed. I think it is coupled to the music, so the apu takes longer to play the sfx when music is on. Since the music is muted the apu needs much shorter time to play them... so it is beyond our abilities to fix. But this is only my guess.
I concur. I encountered the same problem. The only way to mute was by controlling the tempo of any given theme through the APU. In doing this (ie, set tempo to zero), it affects FX sounds (they speed up). As I gradually increased the tempo, the speed of the FX sounds would slow down.Conn wrote:I think Pev, qwerty and I gave it a shot and we all failed. Not saying that it cannot be fixed. It is just a weird sound engine unique to this game; that, no one so far, has figured out how to properly mute without FX being affected.Arnold101 wrote:pev cannot be fixed?
I merely agreed with Conn's assessment, as I encountered the same problem attempting to find a better solution and failed. And I am one of the low end hackers here compared to Conn and Qwerty.
You surely aren'tAnd I am one of the low end hackers here compared to Conn and Qwerty.
If it is indeed the timing, one need to occupy the apu somehow, best solution is to somehow mute the spc volume output (but I never figured out how to archieve this), or to add additional code to occupy the apu.
APU however is a bit weird... while I'd know how to occupy the cpu, the apu is kind of an enigma to me

The rest we are minions xD
I may have some good news, while playing around with the apu, I found a way to mute with not messing up the sfx, I'll try to code that later...
if you set the marked 01 in aram to 00 it is a "perfect mute". If I find out the apu instructions where 01 is written here, it may work. Later. I also have a life

@Conn It definitely works as you stated, but keep the original patch too alongside the new one. I prefer the faster FX sounds. Excellent find. You never disappoint.
Bad news... I tried a lot zero-ing these values via the apu. I even hacked the code (which is extreme difficult since the apu code offers no freespace). Whatever I did it resulted in the old accelerated sfx (it seems like the music must be initialized via these 01 here first). I may try some other tricks though before I give up.
@Conn I hope your bag of tricks does not run dry . I wish you all the luck in the world.
I found the occupying routine, enabling it artificially reduced the SFX to 1/4 the speed. I tinker a bit and hopefully I can resemble the original... But this one is a really hard nut
I think I managed.
Redownload the new patch from first post, the archive size is 814kb (if not clear browser history).
Included is an old(fastSFX) folder with the old accelerated sfx patch.
All other versions have been updated.
Please test whether it works, that was indeed hard!
