Looks like we might get the chance to test this on SD2SNES some day soon, after all...

Hey there,

In my next update for the hack I will include a v1.1 release so it can support MSU-1. Also looking to incorporate the community graphics patch or at least instruct on how to apply.

In the mean time here is how to change to red coins in v1.1 (no header):

GoTo   Value   Notes
6698C   D0   Change to 80 <- Yellow coin underwater
66A19   04    Change to 02 <- Red Coin
66A36   D0   Change to 80 <- Red Coin underwater

GoTo Value Notes
6698C D0 Change to 80 <- Yellow coin underwater
66A19 04 Change to 02 <- Red Coin
66A36 D0 Change to 80 <- Red Coin underwater
These values can be found now. Open 1.1 us version, no header in a hex editor, press ctrl+g and type 0x6698C, press ok and change D0 there to 80
Make that for the other 2 values too.

RedGuy gave me a test version and I can confirm that this MSU-1 hack works on the SD2SNES.

Nice, have you played through the whole game yet? To my understanding, not all the FX features are implemented yet.

Hmm, might have to buy a Sd2Snes before the price goes up due to this development.

Yes, along with two other people that did a warpless race to try it out. There weren't really anything out of the ordinary for any of us except for a single visual bug and some speed differences.

Note that this is still a fairly early build. I don't know how far RedGuy is planning to go with this.

Oh and I also tested out a YI rom hack and even the practice rom hack, they all seem to work just fine. I tried Star Fox 2 as well and it seems to run fine although I'm not really familiar with it at all.

Working great on SD2SNES, aside from a few graphical glitches (which are most likely bugs in RedGuy's SFX implementation, it's still a work-in-progress)

Edit: Woops, I accidentally set the video to private. Fixed that.

Looks awesome Smile Guess I need to update the readme soon that sd2snes now supports SFX games and thus this hack, too. Probably 1.8 already will have it implemented by default.

One general question regarding saving on sd2snes... I do not have an sd2snes... Since Zelda I usually give that note in my readme (somebody told me this problem):
Problems with saving is a known issue with MSU-1 enhanced games on the SD2SNES.The game saves only with this technique your progress: In order to save permanently, you'll need to "Save and Quit", and then either press L+R+Select+X or press and hold the reset button on your console long enough so that it resets to the SD2SNES main menu.
Is that still true?
does it only affect msu1 games?
...and do you also need to do this all time for all games with sram like also e.g. SMW2 to save your progress?

The save issue is still true for MSU-1 (and probably always will be). The same is currently true for SuperFX games, with or without MSU-1.

Thanks Very Happy
I updated some readme:s where I forgot to mention this. Most games luckily use a password system since sram was quite expensive at that time...

? the beta files are freely available at:
http://krikzz.com/forum/index.php?topic=7451.0
very first post:
https://github.com/RedGuyyyy/sd2snes/releases/download/gsu_v02/sd2snes_gsu_v02.zip

Including a readme how to use it on firmware 1.7e:
* This is a beta. Expect crashes and unusual behavior on superfx games. *

This is a beta version of the sd2snes firmware with support for the superfx (gsu) chip. To install
copy the files in the sd2snes/ (firmware.img, fpga_gsu.bit, fpga_base.bit) directory into the sd2snes/ directory on your SD card.
You should have a working version of the sd2snes 0.1.7e firmware on the SD card before doing this.

- Verify the version says 0.1.7e-gsu-v02 in the sd2snes menu. Do this by pressing X->System Information.
- Saving to SD is temporarily disabled. Make sure to hold down the reset button for a few seconds to write a save file to the SD.
- PAL games and systems are not well tested. Try a NTSC game on a NTSC compatible console if you have problems.

Known Issues
------------
- Games may crash on startup. Power cycle and try again if they do this.
- Random graphical glitches may happen on game startup. Power cycle and try again if they do this.
- Stunt Race FX may have graphical glitches at the beginning of a race.
- Games will not run at exactly the same speed as the original cart. This may improve in future versions.
- Not currently compatible with usb2snes or other sd2snes firmware modifications. This will be fixed for usb2snes in the future.
- In-game hooks don't work.

FIXED: The NO-INTRO ROM isn't compatible.

Can someone please help me with this one?

I have managed to get every other MSU1 game working but not this.

I have the No-Intro ROM (Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island (USA) (Rev 1).

I have the patch on the first page.

I applied the patch to my unzipped ROM and named it smw2_msu1.sfc

The game boots, I hear the Nintendo jingle, but the logo is garbled and the game stops at this point.

I also tried the .smc ROM after removing the header but got the same result.

Works fine for me. I suggest sourcing your No-Intro ROM set from somewhere else if there's something wrong.

More information is needed, also. Are you using an emulator? If so, which emulator? Are you using an SD2SNES?

I'm using a SD2SNES in a Super NT.

It only works if I use the patch in conjunction with the no crying patch from romhacks.

Use both and it works.

Well, the nocrying patch on romhacking is for v1.0
https://www.romhacking.net/hacks/3945/
This one surely isn't compatible with 1.1

This msu patch is for 1.1 (Super Mario World 2 - Yoshi's Island (U) (V1.1).sfc).
Only possibility I see is that the nocrying patch transforms the rom in a v1.1 like version, and thus this patch can be applied. Odd..., but possible, no idea. Very Happy

Does your patched rom (without nocrying) work on snes9x?
